  over the last several years i've faught a hard-won battle to rid my mind of all religous and supernatural beleifs.

  in fact, that's a critical SKILL to develop, as you don't read EVERY LAST WORD of any study

  ...or read ANY fact of the study. JWs have perfected the skill of being able to read ABOUT something and make a snap judgement even though they haven't read ANY word of what was written. Maybe you learned this critical skill from the WT? The fact is, you read NONE of the book. You didn't read just SOME of it. You read absolutely NONE. But you made a decision that wrote it completely off, to the point that at the end of your post you said, "Next!", as if that was the final word. Kids do not believe in God until they are taught.

  It's just interesting that you boast about your intelligence and your alleged qualifications (while looking at your beautiful doctorate), and yet it doesn't come through on your posts. All I hear is "You're delusional" "You obviously can't put the dots together" and the such.

  You also said: All the flowery poetic writing in the book is simply filler for people like you

  How would you know what the "flowery poetic writing in the book" is? YOU DIDN'T READ ANY OF IT!!! Hilarious!

  Going back to CoC, I could show you a hundred reviews about CoC that would make it sound like a lying, manipulative book that was written in anger. That doesn't change the facts. And to actually say that you know what the claims are because of wikipedia? Really?

  You also say it was written for people like me. Interesting that you don't know anything about me other than my arguments here. You might want to go back and read what I wrote about stereotypes.

  if your are any man with any ounce of decency and common respect you would, I doubt you are though.

  Did you have to include the last 5 words? That was just a jab. He's done some stuff wrong, but he's been honest about his position and what he's trying to prove to himself. Leave him alone...

  i have noticed that there is a lot of angst directed towards believers and non believers so i thought i would make a thread explaining how it all works from my own perspective.

  the reality is that neither believers nor unbelievers are right or wrong, they simply are, if that makes sense.

  to better understand the perspective ideologies i have constructed a map so to speak of how it all works.. the fact is that we are all products of our environment, we cannot escape this at first, but we can eventually, but first we have to accept that we were first a product of our environment.

  Science is fact.

  Except when it changes as new discoveries are made. In every age scientists believed that they had the right knowledge of how the universe worked, until a new theory was developed or a new discovery came along that showed that the old was was accurate. Sounds like "facts" are relative to the time.

  The search for God is eternal, so when you stop searching for Him because you like some theistic framework, you have just jumped into a vicious cycle that has been going on for milenia, so it's important to know exacty what you are doing or else you won't have a chance to retain personal identity, which is the only thing we really have.

  Just a thought, and this will negate alot of what I say and have said.

  But I was thinking about stereotyping. I think this is a huge problem in our modern culture. We group people into types like "believer" or "atheist", "American" or "Foreigner", "Democrat" or "Republican". And then we put a definition that should fit to all people in this certain group. Occasionally I've tried to avoid that with saying things like "atheists TEND to think...". But that really isn't good enough.

  Maybe much of our problem (and it's been referred to on this thread) is trying to pigeon hole all people of a certain group into a single definition.

  Maybe that's why tolerance doesn't catch on very often. We assume that all people that belong to a certain group have the same characteristics of the label that we've assigned.

  Believers are delusional because...

  Atheists are mean and angry because...

  Republican's don't see reality...

  Yet, behind these stereotypes or labels are individual people that have feelings and are varied in their thoughts and beliefs.

  And here is a fact that no one can argue with: Everyone in every group believes that they are right.

  Maybe it's time to get rid of the labels and view each person as a single individual. Stereotyping has led to so many horrible atrocities. Stereotyping the Jews led to the persecution of the Nazis. Stereotyping of African Americans has led to the still current racism that is still going strong. Stereotyping has led to the belief that all those that believe in God are delusional. Stereotyping has led to the belief that all Atheists are angry, mean, and without solid morals.

  I want to think about this further for myself. But maybe if we get rid of the stereotypes and start looking at people as individuals, this will lead to greater understanding, love, respect, and tolerance.

  I looked at his claims, his wikipedia, googled, read a NY Times interview, found the claims of the book (which are nothing new, but if you've not seen it, it's NEW TO YOU!), read a review, checked for peer reviews or if these werew published in respected journals (nope!), and concluded he's selling a book with a eye-grabbing title.

  Also, with the speed that you responded, you didn't do all this. The time between when I posted the article about the book and the time you responded was about 12 mins. Able to research all of his studies, claims, and reviews in 12 mins and make an absolute 100% judgement of the entire book, all without reading a single page. AMAZING!

  The thing is, when you have a background to evaulate claims, you don't have to read EVERY LAST detail in order to call BS

  Your claimed respect for yourself never ceases to amaze me. Now you claim that you can go without the facts of a large book, read only what others have said about it, and make a 100% accurate claim about the studies in it. Fascinating. We have our own prophet here! I didn't ask if you read every last detail. The fact is, you didn't read a single page of the book!

  Reminds me of a certain troll on this site that wanted to review Crisis of Conscience and disprove everything that it said, when it was found out that he didn't read any of it.

  Maybe he has enough of a background to review all the claims of that book too. You should meet and fall in love.

  No, that would not be accurate. They come up with Theories. Theories are always open to falsification, and a scientist loves to falsify a theory.

  Yes, I know that is the claim, and the truth in many cases. However, they are happy with pronouncing everyone else that doesn't agree with them as delusional. How does that fit in? They wouldn't "love to falsify" a theory that would suggest that the universe has an Intelligent Designer, would they? No, they would resist it as hard as they can (like they now do). You see, the claim just doesn't fit the reality. Sort of like the claim that the Watchtower shows true love doesn't fit the reality. (Yes, maybe a fallacy, but I liked the sound of it)
